    • M. Sc. Statistics (with Honors/Distinction) in 1970 with First Division, First Position in the University.
    • Completed Ph.D. (statistics) at the age of about 23 years in 1973. Recipient of ICAR National Fellowship.
    • Proficient in reading, writing and speaking English, Hindi & Punjabi Languages.
    • Played Hockey at National Level and also passed N.C.C. ‘B’ Certificate.
    • Member of Combined Universities Hockey Team (1972-73).
    • Awarded University Role of Honor in Sports (1972-73).

    Employment Record: Presently Vice-Chancellor, Chandigarh University, Gharuan, Mohali.

    • Started teaching career as Assistant Professor at P.A.U. Ludhiana in March, 1974, joined G.N.D.U. in 1979 as Reader. Worked as Professor in Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar from 17.7.1987 to 30.6.2010.
    • Worked as Registrar, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar from April 1996 to 26.2.2009 for a record three terms (about thirteen years).
    • Worked on almost all the important positions of Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar i.e. Head of the Dept., Dean Faculty, Dean Students’ Welfare, Dean Academic Affairs, Secretary to Vice-Chancellor, OSD Examinations etc.
    • As Registrar of the University, brought many innovative changes in General Administration, examination system, including change in style of question paper, single answer book system, computerization/automation of whole examination system as well as accounts and other branches.
    • During the tenure as Registrar significantly contributed to getting good grading in NAAC accreditation (Five Star and A+) of the University twice (2000, 2007).
    • Worked as Director, Amritsar College of Engineering and Technology, Amritsar from 1.7.2010 till joining Chandigarh University. The college conferred NAAC Accreditation during this period.

    Contributions in Research: 21 students obtained Ph.D. degree under my supervision. Also guided a large number of M. Phil and M. Sc. students for their dissertations/thesis. Presently six candidates are working for Ph.D.

    Publications: Published more than 75 Articles/Research Papers in different journals of repute and the following four books:

    1. Economic Development and Structural Changes- An Empirical Investigation (1985).
    2. Structural Changes in Indian Economy (Ed.)
    3. Punjab Economy: Emerging Issues (2000)
    4. Globalization and Punjab Economy (2007)

    Three Research Projects Completed: Diversification of Agriculture in Punjab and Role of Contract Farming – UGC sponsored under SAP.

    • Tractor Ownership and Utilization Pattern in Punjab – UGC sponsored under SAP.
    • Employment Diversification in an Agriculturally Developed Region in India – A Case Study of Punjab – NABARD sponsored.

    • Participated in more than 100 International, National and Regional Conferences/ Seminars /Workshops.
    • Presided over and chaired sessions in about 30 National Conferences, Seminars and Workshops.

    • Indian Economic Association , Indian Econometric Society, Regional Science Association of India, Indian Society of Information Theory & Applications, Indian Society of Agricultural Economics.

    • Elected President of Indian Economic Association for the year 2001–2002. This position has been held by renowned economists like Dr. Manmohan Singh in 1985 and Dr. Amratya Sen in 1989
